The Minster is linked with an area of Greater Manchester called Eccles – the place where the famous Eccles cakes were first sold , not far from Salford Quays - through the Church Mission Society (CMS) which we have supported over many years.
The Reverend Cyprian Yobera is Team Rector of Eccles and with two other clergy is ministering to congregations of 5 churches and engaging in outreach to the local community.
The Minster supports Cyprian and the Eccles Team Ministry by prayer, financial support and through visits in both directions. These visits provide rich opportunities to share with and learn from each other.
Cyprian came from Nairobi in Kenya to Manchester in 2002 with his wife Jayne and two children. He has visited Wimborne and preached at the Minster on several occasions.
In 2008 a group of people from the Minster visited Cyprian in Harpurhey and shared in mission over a weekend.
In June 2013 a similar visit took place to Eccles.
Plans to set up a Mission Community in Eccles are now under way. People who are either working in the area or studying will form the Community, living together in a vicarage and sharing in Christian outreach with the local church. Both the Diocese of Salford and CMS are strongly supporting this project. This is a vision of faith and needs much careful thought and our prayers to bring it to fruition.
